Poodles, Dog Agility, Dog Training… and Knitting

Dog Sweater

September 24th, 2007 Posted in Photos, knitting, poodles

I am embarrassed to admit that I just finished a sweater for Elly. Last January, we competed at a trial in Puyallup (WA) and the temperature in the arena (which, thankfully, was covered) was 13 degrees… Fahrenheit. I had a sweater for Elly, but it really was very boring (the sweater, not the trial, which went pretty well), so I decided then I would make her one. It took me a while to get around to it–what with life getting in the way–but here it is:

Elly’s New Sweater

I modified a pattern from Jil Eaton’s *Top Dog Knits* (which actually has a pillbox hat for poodles that I will make one of these days). Instead of knitting it flat, I did it on circular needles and changed the yarn. I also made the neck not-a-turtleneck. I think she looks very cute. She made me take it off before she went out though. It’s not cold enough yet for a heavy wool sweater. Now I start work on one for  Dancer. Same yarn, different colors, and I think I’ll modify the pattern again, make the neck narrower and the chest smaller–she’s much thinner than Elly.
