Miss Elinor Grubby Paws, Escape Artist
October 24th, 2007 Posted in poodlesUNDER THE FENCE AGAIN!
Jay and I teamed up to take the beasts out last night. We put a ten-foot drag line on Elly. Lighted collar. It’s now taking a while to suit the dogs up to go outside. We moved down and stood next to the fence where Elly goes out, figuring we could step on the line. We dropped the leash.
So… she runs around the yard like a maniac. She comes over behind me, heading for her favorite hole in the fence (which is a gap of less than 3 inches at the bottom!). I step on the line, pick it up, and tell her NO. She stops. She looks sweet and innocent. Jay says “it’s okay, I’ll grab her if she tries to go out.” I drop the line. Jay is standing next to the gap–and he’s NOT FAST ENOUGH to stop her! Out she goes, running into the blackberries.
Fortunately, she headed right into the neighbor’s yard. We had her back in about five minutes. Not something I ever wanted to get good at, though.
