Extreme Agility Team NADAC Trial January 12 and 13

January 14th, 2008 Posted in poodles, trials

I took both curly girlies to Argus Ranch for the EAT NADAC trial this weekend. We collectively made it through one and half days before a) my knee got annoying, b) Dancer’s puppy brain fried, and c) Elly slowed down and said she was tired–all of which added up to “it’s time to go home now.”

At some point, I’ll have to stop saying “this was Dancer’s xth trial” but I would like to point out that it was only Dancer’s third trial, and her first time in NADAC, where the courses are wide open, the obstacles far apart, and distance handling is a must. She did really well! In a day and a half, Dancer racked up FOUR Qs in 9 runs!

And Elly is now HALF A Q away from completing her Open Regular title. I started with Elly in November of 2005, and one damn thing after another has made it difficult to make it to Elite/Excellent. In AKC, she had to drop back in height, in NADAC it was always the speed requirements. She had the IBD (now under control with diet), the shoulder injury, and the hip dysplasia… So now I’m very excited to be so close!

Saturday:
Elly got a Q and a 3rd in Open Regular (Standard) in 43.06 seconds, 157 yards, against a standard course time (SCT) of 48.31. Note that NADAC has no teeter and no table in regular. (This was half-a-Q because there was a five point fault for knocking a bar.)

Dancer got a Q in Novice Regular in 43.59 seconds, 147 yards, SCT 53.45 seconds. Oh, and a FIRST PLACE. Dancer got a Q in Novice Jumpers, 19.56 seconds, 94 yards, SCT 25.07 seconds… Third place. NOTE that this is 4.8 yards per second! (No weaves in NADAC jumpers.) Dancer got a Q and a third in Novice Tunnelers, 34.03 seconds, 159 yards, SCT 34.75 seconds.

Here’s the thing about that Jumpers run with Dancer. It was pretty much the same course as Open Jumpers, just the ending was simplifed, and the time made a bit more generous–and I’d just run with Elly, although she failed to Q (didn’t make time–3 seconds over). Anyway, I was seriously tired and my knee hurt at that point… so I didn’t walk the course. I just stood at the gate and planned my handling.

On Sunday:
Elly got a Q and a second in Open Regular in 44.69 seconds, 159 yards, SCT 48.92 seconds.
Dancer got a Q and a second in Novice Tunnelers, 152 yards, 35.03 seconds, SCT 38 seconds.

(We left before Jumpers on Sunday, so it wasn’t that Dancer failed to Q, it’s that she didn’t show up.)

Elly also made time in Touch ‘N’ Go on Sunday… Shame about the 40 faults she racked up…. at 10 faults/contact!
