Cheap Thrills on a HOT HOT Day…

May 17th, 2008 Posted in agility titles, trials

It is 95 degrees (Fahrenheit, of course) outside. And sunny. This just does NOT happen around here.

And today Elly and Dancer and  I had an AKC trial at Argus Ranch. Outside in the hot sun. Started with Novice FAST, in which Dancer did a lovely job… except for the send from a jump to a tunnel. She stopped dead in front of the tunnel and said “this one?”

From there we moved to Open FAST, where Elly did a spectacularly beautiful run, with the send being a double jump to the same tunnel Dancer didn’t like and then back over the double. She nailed it, in style, for first place (only dog in class) and her Open FAST Preferred title.

Then on to Dancer in Open JWW… which went okay, but no Q. Dancer and I are out of sync in jumpers lately. We’ll get there.

Then Elly was in Open Standard and her first run in Excellent Jumpers, literally back-to-back. I ran the standard run–a beautiful but slow run, 100 points, first place (only dog in class), a bit under course time–for her Open Standard Preferred title (yippee!)–and then went directly on the line in Excellent Jumpers, where Elly ran nicely, but refused one jump. She barely made course time but did make it–but the refusal cost her the Q.

That’s OKAY! Two titles in one day seems adequate.

I’m so happy I didn’t end up getting into this trial (forgot to mail the envelope before the deadline)! I would have had to pull Tigger and I would have been so hot and tired, I would have been super frustrated with Gyver!!
