Poodles, Dog Agility, Dog Training… and Knitting

Thinking about what I’ve done well…

June 23rd, 2008 Posted in training

I’ve been trying very hard lately to focus on what’s going well and on what needs improvement, rather than phrasing it as a problem. For example: “Dancer’s teeter needs further training” vs. “Dancer can’t do the teeter.”

These are things Dancer does very well indeed:

  • Pees on command–specifically I can say “hurry up” and she pees right away so she can go play.
  • Fabulous startline stay
  • Calm while waiting to run
  • Enthusiasm
  • Speed
  • Tunnels
  • Focus– never gets the zoomies
  • Calm table

These are things we need to work on:

  • Dogwalk
  • A-frame
  • Contact behavior
  • Tire
  • Chute
  • 2009: teeter

These are my goals for the rest of this year:

  • the AKC obstacles, except for the teeter: A-frame, dog-walk, tire, chute

In January of 2009, I will start training the teeter.

And for 2010, I want to be competing in the USDAA 26″ class with Dancer.
