I went to the grocery store yesterday and they were OUT OF CHICKEN LIVERS! So I had to figure out a different way to make a treat that wouldn’t be disgusting in your pocket. I bought two pounds of ground turkey instead. I put it in the stand mixer with about the same volume (so about 3 cups) of oatmeal and mixed them together into a cookie-dough consistency. I pinched off chunks, put them on a silpat, and baked them in a slow oven–around 325 F–for about an hour, then left them to cool. Nice crunchy turkey-oatmeal cookies. No seasonings. I know people like to add garlic, or cheese powder, all those things, but with Elly’s allergies I don’t dare. It doesn’t seem to affect the girls’ enthusiasm for the treats any.

I’ll store them in the freezer though. I always do.
