Elly
November 18th, 2008 Posted in life with poodlesElly somehow injured herself last May. One minute she was running around, the next she was limping and wouldn’t put any weight on her left front leg. A few days rest and some Rimadyl helped, but not completely. A trip to the sports vet (Evelyn Robertson) and x-rays turned up nothing. (I’m just too cheap to pay for an MRI for a dog.) She continued to limp, off and on, especially if she played very hard.
So for months I’ve been limiting her activity, watching her carefully, only doing very limited agility training–jumping at 12 inches, which she could easily step over–and hoping for healing.
Meanwhile, I’ve been in physical therapy for my back, which became unbalanced due to my chronic limp after my knee surgery. Lot of stretching and strengthening. A few days ago, I noticed that I felt pretty good and realized that my back did NOT hurt, for the first time in months.
And then I noticed that Elly wasn’t limping. When I took her to Marymoor yesterday, she loped along, a nice easy canter that I hadn’t seen in months. She’s been wrestling with Dancer (“demon poodling,” as I call it, lots of flashing of teeth and banging around, until they both sneeze and it’s over). In short, she seems to be feeling pretty good.
Let’s hope we both KEEP feeling good.
