A-frame Contacts…

November 21st, 2008 Posted in training

I’ve been working with Dancer on dog walk and A-frame contacts for quite a while now. I want a two-on-two-off on the dog walk and I originally tried and failed to get a running A-frame.

I finally gave up on running contacts, and started to seriously train the two-on-two-off. It didn’t take that long for Dancer to understand and execute the dog walk contact–and in fact having a job to do seem to improve her feeling about it all the way around–but the A-frame has been difficult for her.

To my great glee, today at Canine College, she got the A-frame contact EVERY time, even after I took the contact plate away. I’ve been working on a standing wait–just say wait and walk away, without the sit–and it seems to have transferred to the A-frame contact, so now she runs the A-frame and stops just past it on the flat, which takes her nicely through the yellow. Now… will it hold in competition?
