Squirrels!!

December 7th, 2008 Posted in life with poodles

We’ve been in Portland for a few days, which means Dancer and Elly have to be city dogs. That means walking nicely on leash–Elly has to have the Easy Walker harness–and waiting outside shops while I run in. New things for a poodle to learn.

There’s a nice park just a few blocks away from our rental house, with a small off-leash (unfenced) area. it has some lovely old trees, and some very fast squirrels.

Dancer thinks squirrels are about the coolest thing ever.

Friday she chased a squirrel up a tree, but there was a problem: there was a squirrel in the tree already, and he took exception to another squirrel entering his territory. So the poor squirrel got about twenty feet up the tree and got chased back down… where Dancer was waiting… so it went back up… back down… back up…

It finally froze about ten feet up, trapped between two problems. Dancer froze into attention.

After a few minutes, the upper squirrel went further up the tree and jumped into the tree next door. Problem solved.
