In which I offer proof that I am smarter than at least one dog…
January 27th, 2009 Posted in life with poodles, trainingI have been busy since my surgery. Mostly recovering. But other things too, and NOT doing agility, which is frustrating. And the girls managed to go through a nasty bout of diarrhea–now gone–that meant I didn’t get much sleep for a few days. (Why do dogs always develop diarrhea and vomiting at 2 AM, when you’re most deeply asleep?)
Anyway, I just took the dogs out, on leash, to the side yard. Like an idiot–I do know better–I took the leashes off at the front door and opened the front door. Dancer went in, and Elly went sideways and started running around the pond in front of the house, chasing birds and other wild things. I called her and was ignored. In fact, she went the other way.
So I went and got some treats, put Dancer on leash, and took Dancer outside, just in front of the front door, and asked her to sit. I praised her sit and gave her a treat. I asked for a touch and praised her loudly and gave her a treat. Elly looked over. I repeated the sit and told Dancer what a great dog she was.
And Elly came over and sat nicely too. So I gave her a treat, put her leash on, and brought her inside.
