I am an idiot

April 23rd, 2009 Posted in life with poodles

It took me a while to be ready to write about how I was a complete idiot last weekend.

I decided I wanted to stay at Argus for the EAT trial. Three hour drive up there from Portland… so I reserved a room in Brutus Hall for Friday night. I crashed around 8:30 Friday night, slept reasonably well, and woke up refreshed around 5:30. I lay in bed, reading the news on my iPhone (my favorite thing about it), until I heard the neighbors up and about around 6:15. I then trotted across the hall, took a fast shower (since it’s a shared bathroom), and then went back to my room.

Ooops.

I’d forgotten to take the key with me. And I’d left the dogs asleep in the room.

So now we go to visual: nightgown, long sleeved shirt over nightgown, sneakers and no socks. I go outside and next door to try to find Ricky, the caretaker, to get a key. It is cold, there is frost on the ground. People are arriving for the trial. I’ll repeat: I am walking around outside in 37 degree temps, wearing a nightgown, as people are arriving for an agility trial.

And I can’t find Ricky.

I go back inside, slightly frantic and wondering when the curly girls will start barking because I’m not in the room. I ask the women next door if they know where I can find Ricky. No idea. I try to figure out if I can use a credit card to get into the room by slipping the lock. Not likely; the doorjamb fits pretty well.

I am about to panic when I have an idea. I ask the other people in the hall if I can try their keys in my lock.

And… one of the keys works. And when I go into the room… the girls are still sound asleep, one on each bed.

(The woman whose key I used said “wow! my dog would have been nuts.”)
