Teeter News….
June 21st, 2010 Posted in life with poodles, training, trialsCompeted with Dancer at an AKC trial this weekend. Sunday only–Jay was off at the LiveStrong bike ride in Seattle. (He was a top donor so we got to go to a cool cocktail party the night before. Then we got up early and I got filthy at the trial and Jay got soaked while riding 100 miles. I guess we have weird hobbies.) (PS The Lance Armstrong Foundation does amazing things for people who are living with cancer. Check it out at LiveStrong.)
(And if you’re wondering, Elly just got to schmooze with people. The Rimadyl is already making an obvious difference.)
Anyway, to get back to the point, Dancer had three runs. In Open FAST, she had a lovely run and failed to Q when she didn’t complete the last jump of the send. My fault, of course. In Open Jumpers, she had half a lovely run–right up to the weaves–then it took three tries to get the weaves, then she crashed the double immediately afterwards–and then she finished beautifully.
BUT she had a gorgeous (although non-qualifying) Novice Standard run. Beautiful leadout, a fast curve to the teeter–and she did the teeter with only the slightest hesitation!–over the a-frame with a nice contact, around the curve to the table (minor off-course over a distracting jump), off the table and over the dogwalk… and damn, she flew right over the contact and into the final tunnel. Oh well. NQ, but 50.30 seconds and 27 seconds faster than her littermate, Nickel, who was also in the 24″ class. Nickel’s run was very pretty–and she got her contacts–just not fast.
Vikki was at the trial with TinTin, Dancer’s mom, and Nickel, Dancer’s sister. It was hilarious to watch Dancer when she saw the three of them. She was ecstatic! She hasn’t seen Vikki since last summer–and she knew her immediately, leaping on her with wild abandon. She sniffed and licked and bowed obsequiously to her mom, and she and Nickel talked politely–then rough-housed a bit.
